프랑스는 인도의 민간 핵 에너지 계획 개발을 지원하기로 합의했습니다.
자크 시라크 프랑스 대통령과 인도의 만모한 싱 총리는 12일 파리에서 회담한 후에 이 같은 결정을 발표했습니다.
양국 공동 성명은 프랑스가 민간 핵 분야에 있어서 인도와의 전면적인 국제적 협력의 필요성을 인식하고 있으며 양국은 이에 관해서 서로 협력할 것이라고 전했습니다.
성명은 또한 프랑스는 핵 확산을 막기위한 인도의 굳건한 노력을 환영한다고 밝히고 있습니다. 인도는 이미 미국과 영국으로 부터 핵 에너지 지원을 받고 있습니다.
시라크 대통령은 또한 프랑스가 유엔 안전 보장 이사회 상임 이사국에 진출하려는 인도의 의지를 강력히 지지한다고 말했습니다.

France has agreed to help India develop its civilian nuclear energy program and the two countries will work toward signing a cooperation agreement in that sector.
The decision was announced by French President Jacques Chirac and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after they met in Paris Monday.
A joint statement says France recognizes the need for full international cooperation with India in the civilian nuclear field and will work towards that with other countries. It also says France welcomes the firm commitment by India to stop nuclear proliferation.
India has already won help in nuclear energy from the United States and Britain.
President Chirac also said France strongly supports what he called India's legitimate aspiration for a permanent seat at the U.N. Security Council.
Mr. Singh stopped in Paris on his way to the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York.
