조지 부쉬 미국 대통령은 이란에게 핵 계획을 포기하도록 압력을 가하기위한 “마지막 수단”으로 무력 사용을 고려할 것이라고 경고 했습니다.
부쉬 대통령은 13일 자신의 텍사스 목장에서 이스라엘 텔레비전 방송과 가진 인터뷰에서 미국과 이스라엘은 이란이 핵 무기를 갖도록 허용돼서는 안된다는데 의견을 같이하고 있다고 말하고, 이를 위한 수단에 무력 사용이 포함되는 질문에 “외교가 실패할 경우 모든 선택 방안은 테이블에 올려져있다”고 대답했습니다.
이란은 자체 핵 계획의 포기 대가로 정치적 경제적 인센티브를 제공하겠다는 유럽 연합의 제의를 거부하고 금주 우라늄 변환 작업을 재개함으로써 미국과 유럽 연합을 분노케했습니다.
유럽과 미국은, 이란측이 협력하지않을 경우 이란을 유엔 안전 보장 이사회에 회부해 제재를 받도록 하겠다고 경고해 오고 있습니다.

President Bush says he would consider using force to press Iran to give up its nuclear program, but only as a last resort.
Speaking from his Texas ranch in an interview with Israeli television broadcast today (Saturday), Mr. Bush said the United States and Israel agree that Iran must not be allowed to have a nuclear weapon.
When asked if that included the use of force, Mr. Bush said "all options are on the table" if diplomacy fails.
Iran angered Washington and the European Union by resuming uranium conversion this week after rejecting an EU offer of political and economic incentives in return for giving up its nuclear program. Tehran says the program is only for peaceful purposes.
Europe and the United States have warned they will refer Iran to the U.N. Security Council for possible sanctions if Tehran does not cooperate.
