사우디 아라비아에 있는 알 카에다 지도급 인물 한명이 사우디 경찰과의 총격전에서 사망했다고 사우디 관리들이 말했습니다.
사우디 내무부는 모로코 출신의 유니스 모하메드 이브라힘 알 하야리가 3일 일찍 사우디 수도 리아드에서 사망했다고 밝혔습니다. 지명수배중인 다른 두명의 과격 분자는 부상했습니다.
사우디 보안 당국은 구체적인 사건의 진상을 파악하기 위해 노력중이라고 말했습니다. 사망한 용의자는 사우디 내무부가 지난달 28일 발표한 36명의 지명 수배자중 최우선순위에 올라있던 인물인 것으로 알려졌습니다.
사우디 아라비아는 오사마 빈 라덴이 이끄는 알 카에다 테러 조직에 충성하는 과격 분자들과 근 2년 넘게 전투를 벌이고 있습니다.
알 카에다 활동 요원들은 사우디 아라비아에 있는 외국인 거주자, 정부 건물 , 에너지 산업 시설에 대한 유혈 공격을 자행한 것으로 비난받아 왔습니다.

Officials in Saudi Arabia say al-Qaida's leader in the kingdom has been killed in a shootout with Saudi police in Riyadh.
The Saudi Interior Ministry says Moroccan-born Younis Mohammad Ibrahim al-Hayari was killed early today (Sunday) in (the al-Rawdah neighborhood of) the capital. Two other wanted militants were wounded in the overnight clash.
The dead suspect tops a list of 36 wanted militants issued by the kingdom's Interior Ministry on Tuesday.
Saudi Arabia has been battling militants loyal to Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida terrorist network for more than two years. Al-Qaida operatives have been blamed for bloody attacks on foreign residents, government sites and energy-industry installations in Saudi Arabia.
