타이완은 미국 당국이 광우병에 걸린 소를 발견했다고 발표한 후 미국산 쇠고기에 대한 수입 금지조치를 다시 내렸습니다.
타이완 당국은 이 금수조치는 즉각 발효된다고 25일 밝혔습니다. 타이완 당국은 미국이 캐나다에서 수입한 소가 서부의 워싱턴주에서 지난2003년 12월, 광우병에 걸린 것으로 판명된 후 내렸던, 미국산 쇠고기에 대한 금수 조치를 2개월 전에 해제했었습니다.
미 농무부는 영국 연구소의 검사 결과 두 번째 소가 광우병에 걸린 것이 확인됐지만 이 쇠고기는 소비 유통되지 않았기 때문에 인체에 대한 위협은 없다고 말했습니다.

Taiwan has reimposed a ban on U.S. beef imports after American officials announced the discovery of an animal with mad cow disease.
Taipei said today (Saturday) the ban would take effect immediately. The suspension comes about two months after the island lifted a previous ban imposed after an infected cow imported from Canada was discovered in December of 2003 in
the western state of Washington.
U.S. Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns said Friday that a laboratory in England had confirmed a second animal has the disease (formally known as bovine spongiform encephalopathy or BSE).
Mr. Johanns said human health was not at risk, because the animal never entered the food chain.
A human form of the brain-wasting disease in Britain and elsewhere has been linked to eating meat from infected cattle.
