이라크 수도 바그다드시내, 경비가 삼엄한 그린존 정부 단지와 가까운 한 유명 식당에서 자살 폭탄 공격이 발생해 최소한 16명이 사망하고 25명이 부상했습니다.
관리들은 자살 공격대원이 점심시간 경 , 식당에 들어와 몸에 두른 폭발물에 불을 지를 당시 식당 안에는 경찰과 보안 요원들로 가득차 있었다고 말했습니다.
한편 이보다 앞서 19일 오전 무장괴한들이 바드다드에서 직장으로 향하던 두명의 이라크 경찰관을 총격 살해했다고 경찰 당국이 밝혔습니다. 이와는 별도로 티크리트근처 이라크 군검문소 근처에서도 자살 폭탄 공격이 발생해 세명이 목숨을 잃었습니다.
또다른 사태발전으로 고문장소로 이용되던 이라크 카라빌라 시의 한 주택에서 발견된 네명의 이라크인들이 이라크 저항 세력에게 당한 야만적인 고문행위를 설명했습니다. 22일동안 감금돼 고문당했다는 한 희생자는, 기자들에게 2주 이상을 채찍으로 구타당하고 전기 충격 고문을 당했다고 증언했습니다.
이들 고문 희생자들은 저항분자들이 매일 한명씩 살해했으며 자신들에게도 살해하겠다고 위협했다고 말했습니다. 미 해병대는 시리아와의 국경 근처에서 17일 시작한 저항 세력 소탕 작전을 진행하는 과정에서 쇠사슬에 묶여있는 이들을 한 고문 장소에서 발견했습니다.

A suicide bomber in the Iraqi capital has killed at least 16 people in a popular restaurant close to the heavily fortified Green Zone government compound.
Officials say the eatery was crowded with police and security personnel, when the bomber entered around lunchtime and triggered explosives strapped to his body. Authorities say at least 25 others were wounded.
Earlier today (Sunday), police say gunmen shot dead two Iraqi policemen in Baghdad as they headed to work. Separately, a suicide bomber killed three people at an Iraqi military checkpoint near Tikrit.
In the seperate development, four Iraqis found by U.S. Marines in a torture house in the city of Karabila have described the brutality they endured at the hands of Iraqi insurgents.
The victims, including one who said he had been held and tortured there for 22 days, told journalists they were beaten with a strip of rubber and received electric shocks for more than two weeks. The torture victims said the insurgents killed someone each day and threatened to kill them as well.
U.S. Marines discovered the men shackled in the torture center while conducting an anti-insurgent operation that began Friday near the Syrian border.
