미국 국방부 고위 관리의 베트남 방문이 과거 적대국이었던 베트남과 미국의 군사적, 외교적 유대 관계의 증진으로 이어질 것이라고 베트남 관영 언론이 보도했습니다.
이틀 일정으로 베트남을 방문하고 있는 미 국방부의 피터 로드만 차관보는 7일 하노이에서 베트남의 팜 반 트라 국방장관과 회담했습니다.
로드만 장관은 또한 안보부 관리들과 회담하고 베트남의 국방 대학과 국제 관계 기관을 방문할 계획입니다.
오는 21일에는 판 반 카이 베트남 총리가 워싱턴에서 조지 부시 미국 대통령과 회담할 예정입니다.
이번 정상회담은 30년 전에 베트남 전쟁이 끝난 이래 베트남 지도자의 최초의 미국 방문이 될 것입니다.

Vietnamese state media say a visit by a senior U.S. defense official will lead to increased military and diplomatic ties between the former adversaries.
U.S. Assistant Defense Secretary Peter Rodman met with Vietnamese Defense Minister Pham Van Tra in Hanoi on Tuesday. Mr. Rodman is on a two-day visit to the Communist nation.
He will also hold talks with officials from the ministry of public security, and visit Vietnam's defense academy and its foreign relations institute.
Vietnam Prime Minster Phan Van Khai will meet with President Bush on June 21st in Washington. It will be the first such visit by a Vietnamese leader to the U.S. since the end of the Vietnam War 30 years ago.
