알프스 산맥을 관통해 프랑스와 이탈리아를 잇는 프레쥐 터널에서 치명적인 트럭 화재 사고가 발생해 무기한 폐쇄될 예정입니다.
프랑스 관계관들은 5일 프랑스 리용과 이탈리아 투린을 연결하는 13킬로미터에 달하는 프레쥐 터널 보수 공사는 수개월이 걸릴 수도 있을 것이라고 말했습니다.
이들 관계관은 지난 4일 터널 안에서 프랑스의 트럭 한대에 화재가 발생해 다른 여러 차량으로 불길이 확산됨으로써 슬로베니아 인으로 믿어지는 트럭 운전사 두명이 숨졌다고 말했습니다.
지난 1999년에는 인근 몽블랑 터널에서 이와 유사한 화재가 발생해 39명이 목숨을 잃은 바 있습니다.
관계관들은 투린에서 개막될 동계 올림픽에 맞춰 이 터널의 차량 운행이 정상으로 회복될 지의 여부는 불투명하다고 말하고 있습니다.

A major alpine tunnel linking France and Italy will remain closed indefinitely, following a deadly truck fire.
Officials said today (Sunday) that it could take months to repair damage to the 13-kilometer Frejus tunnel linking Lyon and Turin.
The officials said a truck from France caught fire in the tunnel Saturday, spreading to several other vehicles and killing two truck drivers, believed to be from Slovenia.
A similar fire in the nearby Mont Blanc tunnel in 1999 claimed the lives of 39 people.
Officials said it was unclear whether the tunnel will be back in service in time for the Winter Olympics in Turin.
