오늘의 영어 표현은: Runs in the family 입니다.
It’s always fascinating to see how children resemble their parents. Children may have similar personalities or even similar physical characteristics. I met Dave and his daughter, Rachel, and I found out that there is a specific characteristic that run in the family. Let’s find out what that is. 그럼 먼저 제가 Dave와 Dave의 딸 Rachel 와 나눈 대화 내용을 들어보시겠습니다.

Jen: As a father, what runs in the family? Does your daughter have your eyes or…?
Dave: My sense of humor!
Jen: Oh! You’re sense of humor. Okay! Let me ask your daughter on that. Do you agree with daddy?
Rachel: Yeah!
Jen: You have a good sense of humor? It runs in the family?
Rachel: Uh huh!
Jen: Okay, good!

제가 Dave에게 ‘어떤 성격 이나 특징 이 Dave 집안에 내력인가요? 라고 물어보니까
“My sense of humor / 유머감각이저희 집안에 내력입니다” 라고 하더라고요. 참고로 유머감각은 우스개 소리를 잘하거나 분위기를 재미있게 이끄는걸 말하죠?
오늘의 영어 표현 ‘run in the family 인데요 여기서 run/ R U N / run은 ‘(~) 죽내려오다 혹은 이어져오다’라는 뜻이고 in the family는 ‘어떤 집안에’ 라는 뜻 입니다. 그러니까 Run in the family는 ‘집안에 이어져오는, 집안 내력인’ 이라는 의미가 되는거죠 다시 말해 ‘어떤 성격이 집안 사람에게 나타난다’는 뜻입니다.
Run in the family means that there is a characteristic that appear in many or all members of a family.
그럼 여기서 오늘의 대화를 다시 한번 들어보시겠습니다.
