Protesters in Athens threw fire bombs and battled police today (Wednesday)near the city's main court complex, where two police officers charged in the fatal shooting of a teenager were appearing.

The police shooting of the 15-year-old Saturday sparked rioting that has paralyzed Athens and several other Greek cities for more than four days. There was no immediate word on whether the court proceedings were affected.

Meanwhile, the lawyer for the two accused officers says initial bullet analysis shows the boy was killed by a ricochet and not a direct shot.

The officers said they were firing warning shots, but witnesses said they saw one officer take direct aim at the boy. Both face criminal charges -- one for murder and the other as an accomplice.

In a televised address today (Wednesday),Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis again pledged to safeguard citizens and promised financial support for businesses damaged by protesters.
