A new report says trade among the world's nations is likely to grow more slowly this year, continuing a trend that started in 2006.

Today's report from the World Trade Organization predicts that growth in global trade will decline to four-point-five percent for 2008.

Economists say trade will slow because of economic downturns in key developed nations that are only partly off-set by growth in poor countries and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The downturn in the U.S. economy might ease in the next few months. A report designed to predict U.S. economic activity six-months in the future had turned upward for the first time in months.

But the prices of oil and rice have once again hit record highs today showing that significant economic problems continue to trouble the U.S. and many other economies.
