Robert Zoellick has taken over as the new president of the World Bank.

Zoellick, a former U.S. trade negotiator, began his new job today (Monday).

The World Bank's Board of Shareholders on June 25 unanimously approved President Bush's choice of Zoellick, who is a former deputy U.S. secretary of state.

He replaces Paul Wolfowitz, who was forced to resign amid criticism over a pay increase he arranged for a female friend.

The American Enterprise Institute announced today (Monday) that Wolfowitz is joining the conservative think-tank as a visiting scholar. The Institute said he would focus on entrepreneurship and development issues, Africa and public-private partnerships.

Wolfowitz is the former number two person at the U.S. Defense Department. He was a key architect of the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq.
