Health officials in Cambodia say a girl has died of bird flu, bringing to the country's death toll from the deadly virus to three.

An official with the Cambodian Health Ministry's communicable disease office said (Sunday) the latest victim was an 8-year-old girl who died at a Phnom Penh hospital late Thursday.

He said the girl was from the southwestern province of Kampot, where the country's two previous bird flu victims died.

The bird flu virus, which began affecting poultry farms in Asia in late 2003, has already killed 51 people on the continent. Vietnam has so far reported 36 bird flu deaths, and Thailand has reported 12.
