네팔에서 경찰서에 구금된 어린이들에 대한 고문과 학대가 자행되고 있다고 국제인권단체인 휴먼라이츠워치가 지적했습니다.
휴먼라이츠워치는 네팔 경찰이 10대 소년, 소녀들을 고문, 학대 한다는 2백여 건의 신고를 접수했다며 네팔 정부의 대책 마련을 촉구했습니다.
휴먼라이츠워치의 비드 셰파드 연구원은 네팔 경찰이 보호 대상인 어린이들에 대한 범죄를 저지르고 있다고 비난했습니다. 셰파드 연구원은 또한 경찰이 어린이들로부터 자백을 받기 위해서뿐만이 아니라 단순히 재미로 고문을 자행하고 있다고 지적했습니다.
휴먼라이츠워치는 네팔 경찰들이 어린이들을 고문할 때 주먹과 발은 물론 대나무 회초리와 플라스틱 파이프로 구타하거나 발톱 밑에 못을 삽입하는 등의 잔인한 방법을 사용하고 있다고 비난했습니다.

A top human rights group says Nepal's government should urgently address what the group says is the widespread torture and ill-treatment of children in police custody.
Human Rights Watch said Tuesday it has received claims of more than 200 cases of torture or abuse committed by Nepali police against teenage boys and girls.
A researcher with the U.S.-based group (Bede Sheppard) says by torturing children in custody, Nepal's police are committing crimes against those they are supposed to be protecting. He says torture is sometimes used to extract confessions from children, and also appears to be carried out purely for entertainment.
Human Rights Watch says the most common methods of torture police use on children include kicking, fist blows to the body, inserting metal nails under toenails, and hitting body parts with bamboo sticks and plastic pipes.
