미국 주요 일간지들이 파키스탄 정보부를 지난달 아프가니스탄 주재 인도 대사관 폭탄 공격의 배후로 지목한 데 대해 파키스탄 정부가 강하게 반발했습니다.
모하메드 사디크 파키스탄 외교부 대변인은 특히 이같은 의혹을 처음으로 제기한 뉴욕타임즈의 보도가 근거없는 낭설에 불과하다고 비난했습니다.
뉴욕타임즈와 워싱턴 포스트지는 미국 관리들의 말을 인용해 미 정보기관들이 파키스탄 정보부가 폭탄 공격에 연루돼 있는 것으로 믿고 있다고 보도한 바 있습니다. 미 관리들은 파키스탄 정보부 관리들과 공격의 주범인 탈레반 무장 세력간의 대화내용 도청을 통해 이같은 사실을 알아냈다고 밝혔습니다.

Pakistan has rejected U.S. media reports that members of the country's
intelligence agency helped plan the deadly bombing of the Indian Embassy in
Afghanistan last month.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Sadiq today (Friday)called the
allegation, first reported by "The New York Times" newspaper,
"rubbish" and "baseless."
U.S. officials are quoted (by the Times and the Washington Post)as
saying American intelligence agencies believe elements of Pakistan's
Inter-Services Intelligence agency (ISI)played a role in the bombing.
The officials say the conclusion is based on intercepted communications between
Pakistani officials and militants who carried out the attack.
On Thursday, Pakistan's defense minister said the U.S. has accused Pakistan's
spy agency of giving militants information on impending U.S. attacks, allowing
them to escape.
Ahmed Mukhtar said U.S. President George Bush made the accusation during this
week's meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani at the White
House.
