조지 부시 대통령은 워싱턴 인근 버지니아 주의 알링턴 국립묘지에 있는 무명용사 묘역에 헌화할 계획입니다. 그 후 부시 대통령은 연설을 통해, 국가를 위해 싸우다 숨진 미군들에게 경의를 표할 예정입니다.
알링턴 국립묘지에는 약 1백50년 전의 남북전쟁 때부터 지금까지
군 복무 중 사망한 30만 명 이상의 미군 유해와 함께 우주비행사와 탐험가들, 2명의 미국 대통령, 그리고 국가적 저명인사들이 안장돼 있습니다.
메모리얼 데이는 연방 공휴일로 추모식과 다른 특별행사들이
미 전국에서 개최됩니다. 또한 미국에서 이 날은 비공식적으로 여름 휴가철을 알리는 날이기도 합니다.

Americans are honoring those who died in military service to their country on this Memorial Day holiday.
President George Bush today (Monday) plans to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia near Washington, D.C. During a speech afterwards, he will pay tribute to the American men and women who have fought and died for their country.
Arlington National Cemetery holds the remains of more than 300-thousand people, including members of the military services, as well as astronauts and explorers, two U.S. presidents (William Taft and John F. Kennedy), and other individuals of national prominence.
Memorial Day is a national holiday, and ceremonies and other special events are taking place across the United States. The Memorial Day weekend also is the unofficial start of the summer season, when Americans travel to the beach or enjoy a backyard barbecue.
