Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has sworn in 24 members of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's new cabinet, more than a month after opposition parties swept a general election.
Mr. Gilani sat alongside Mr. Musharraf as the president administered the oath of office in a ceremony today (Monday) in Islamabad. Several members of the new cabinet wore black armbands during the ceremony in a show of protest against President Musharraf's continuing hold on power.
The new cabinet includes 11 ministers from slain former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's Pakistan Peoples Party, which won the most seats in the February election. Nine other ministers represent the party's main coalition ally, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-N party.
The ceremony comes a week after President Musharraf swore in Mr. Gilani, a long time opponent and member of the PPP, as prime minister.
