The attack was the worst in Israel in two years and it shocked many Jerusalem residents.
Police say the attacker was shot dead -- and identified him as a 25-year-old Palestinian resident of East Jerusalem. Israel has restricted travel from the West Bank, where the gunman lived, until Saturday evening.
The Palestinian militant group Hamas is denying earlier claims that it was responsible for the attack.
The White House today (Friday) urged Israel and the Palestinians to continue peace talks, despite the attack.
