베나지르 부토 전 파키스탄 총리 암살사건을 수사해온 영국 경찰청 수사팀은 부토 전 총리가 저격범의 총탄이 아닌 자살폭탄테러의 충격에 의해 숨진 것으로 결론지었습니다.
영국 수사팀은 지난해 12월 27일 라왈핀디에서 정치캠페인을 벌이다가 암살된 부토 전 총리 사건에 대한 수사 결과를 8일 발표했습니다.
수사팀은 한 명의 테러리스트가 폭탄을 터뜨렸으며, 부토 전 총리는 폭발 당시 발생한 충격으로 입은 치명적인 머리 부상 때문에 숨졌다고 밝혔습니다. 앞서 일부에서는 두 명의 저격수가 이번 암살사건에 연루됐다는 의혹도 제기됐었습니다.
영국 경찰청 수사팀은 페르베즈 무샤라프 파키스탄 대통령의 요청에 따라 지난 2주간 이 사건을 수사했습니다. 이들의 수사 결과는 그동안 파키스탄 정부가 주장해온 부토 전 총리의 사인을 뒷받침합니다.
한편 부토 전 총리의 소속당인 파키스탄인민당 대변인은 영국 수사팀의 수사결과를 반박했으며, 부토 전총리가 저격범의 총탄에 사망했다고 계속 주장했습니다.

British detectives from Scotland Yard have concluded that the force of a suicide bomb blast, and not an assassin's bullet, killed Pakistani opposition leader and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
Investigators presented the findings today (Friday) of their probe into the December 27th assassination of Ms. Bhutto as she left a political rally in Rawalpindi.
They determined that Ms. Bhutto died from a fatal head injury caused by the suicide blast, triggered by a lone gunman. There were earlier suggestions that two assailants were involved.
The British investigators spent more than two weeks in Pakistan at the request of President Pervez Musharraf. Their findings supported the Pakistani government's version of how Ms. Bhutto died.
A spokeswoman (Sherry Rahman) for Ms. Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party rejected the British findings and insisted that she died from a bullet wound.
