The U.S. military says coalition forces in northern and central Iraq have killed four
suspected militants and detained 18 others during a series of operations targeting al-Qaida since Friday.
The military said three suspects were killed in an airstrike during one of the raids north of Muqdadiyah Friday. It said coalition forces were targeting a group suspected of
involvement in gunfire attacks on American troops.
The military today (Saturday) also announced the death of an American soldier who was killed in a gunfire attack Friday in northern Ninevah province.
Separately, Iraqi officials said two members of a security patrol group were killed and 10 others wounded in an explosion in Baghdad today. Officials said the blast struck the group's headquarters in the northern Adhamiya neighborhood.
In the southern Doura neighborhood, Iraqi officials said gunmen wounded at least two
security patrol members in a separate incident today.
