중국 정부가 당초의 입장을 바꿔 미국 항공모함의 홍콩항 정박을 허용하기로 했습니다.
중국 외교부의 류젠차오 대변인은 오늘 정례브리핑에서 미국 항공모함 키티호크 호가 추수감사절을 맞아 홍콩항에 정박하는 것을 인도주의적 입장에서 허용키로 했다고 말했습니다. 중국 정부의 이같은 결정에 따라 8천명의 미군 장병들은 홍콩에서 가족, 친지들과 추수감사절을 맞을 수 있게 됐습니다.
미국 항공모함 키티호크는 당초 21일 홍콩에 입항할 예정이었으나 중국 정부가 갑자기 입항을 거부한다고 밝힌 바 있습니다.
전문가들은 미국이 티벳의 정신적 지도자 달라이 라마에게 의회 황금메달상을 수여하고 타이완에 패트리어트 미사일을 판매하자 중국이 이에 대한 항의 표시로 미국 항공모함의 홍콩 정박을 잠시 거부했던 것으로 관측하고 있습니다.

China has reversed a decision to bar a flotilla of U.S. warships from docking in Hong Kong and now says it has approved the four-day visit on "humanitarian grounds."
Speaking at a regular media briefing today (Thursday), Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said China would allow the USS Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier and several other vessels to dock in Hong Kong during the American holiday of Thanksgiving.
But, he did not give any explanation for China's about face.
Hundreds of relatives of American sailors had flown to Hong Kong, and would have been unable to meet with their family members if China had not reversed its decision.
The move comes as military relations with the United States seemed to be improving.
U.S. military officials said they did not know why Beijing barred the ships. In the past, China had blocked ships from Hong Kong when relations with Washington become tense.
