10월 초, 중국 국경 수비대가 산을 타고 네팔로 망명을 시도한 30여명의 티벳 인들을 향해 발포했다고 워싱턴 주재 한 민간단체가 밝혔습니다.
‘티벳을 위한 국제 활동’이라는 단체는 30일 성명서를 통해, 이 사건으로 부상자는 생기지 않았지만 몇명은 체포되었다고 전했습니다. 또 망명을 시도한 30명 중에는 불교 승려와 비구니 그리고 두명의 어린이도 있었다고 이 단체는 밝혔습니다.
이들은 히말라야 산의 낭파 고개를 넘으려고 시도했는데, 이 장소는 지난해 한 비구니가 사살된 것이 국제 산악인들에 의해 목격되기도 한 곳입니다.
단체의 발표에 대해 중국 정부의 반응은 없습니다.
매년 수백명의 티벳인들은 중국 땅을 벗어나 네팔에 도달하기 위해 히말라야 산을 타곤 합니다.

A Washington-based organization says Chinese border police shot at a group of Tibetans, including women and children, earlier this month as they tried to cross a mountain pass into exile in Nepal.
In a statement late Tuesday, the International Campaign for Tibet said no one was injured in the incident. But it says several of the group were taken into custody.
The statement said the more than 30 Tibetans included Buddhist monks, nuns and two children.
Last year, international climbers witnessed a Buddhist nun being shot dead at the same location on the icy Himalayan Nangpa Pass.
There was no immediate comment from the Chinese government.
Every year, hundreds of Tibetans cross the Himalayas from their Chinese-ruled territory to reach Nepal.
