유엔안전보장이사회는 수단 다르푸르 지역에 2만6천명의 평화유지군을 파병하기로 하는 결의안을 만장일치로 승인했습니다.
안보리는 1일 유엔헌장 7장에 의거한 결의안을 통해 평화유지군에 인도주의 활동 종사자의 이동 자유를 확보하고 난민 보호를 위한 자위권 발동을 허용했습니다.
이번 결의안은 영국과 프랑스 그리고 수단과 수단 석유의 주 수입국인 중국의 몇주간에 걸친 협상끝에채택됐습니다.
영국과 프랑스는 중국과 안보리의 다른 3개 아프리카 국가들의 반대가 있자 수단에 대한 새로운 제재 위협을 철회했습니다.
양제쯔 중국 외교부장은 이번 결의안을 가리켜 극도로 중요한 사안에 대한 “훌륭한 대처 방안”이라고 말했습니다.

Saudi Arabia says it will send a diplomatic mission to Iraq to explore the possibility of opening its embassy in Baghdad.
(Speaking at a joint news conference in Jeddah with U.S. secretaries of state and defense,) Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal said the kingdom has decided to look at opening an embassy in Baghdad to support the government of Iraq.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice welcomed the move, calling it "an important step."
The Saudi foreign minister said that the kingdom wants to work closely with Iraq on security issues, especially terrorism.
Prince Saud also said he was "astounded" by recent criticism of his government by the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and former envoy to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad.
On Sunday, Khalilzad said Saudi Arabia was undermining stability in Iraq by withholding support for the Shi'ite-led government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
