콘돌리자 라이스 미국 국무장관은 18일 미국은 팔레스타인 자치정부와 외교관계를 정상화할 것이라고 말했습니다.
파타당의 마무드 압바스 팔레스타인 자치수반은 지난 주 하마스가 가자지구를 장악한 후에 하마스 주도의 정부를 전격 해산시킨 바 있습니다.
라이스 장관은 팔레스타인인들, 특히 가자지구 주민들을 위해 4천만달러의 인도주의 지원을 제공할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
이에 앞서 하비에르 솔라나 유럽연합 외교정책 집행위원은 살람 파이야드 총리가 이끄는 팔레스타인 자치정부에 원조를 재개할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.

The United Sates and European Union say they plan to resume direct aid to the new Palestinian government that does not include the militant group Hamas.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice announced in Washington today (Monday) that the U.S. will have normal relations with the Palestinian government.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of the Fatah group dismissed the previous Hamas-led government after Hamas seized control of the Gaza Strip last week in fighting with Fatah.
Rice said the U.S. will also provide 40 million dollars in humanitarian aid for Palestinians, particularly those in Gaza.
Earlier today, EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said the bloc would resume aid to the new Palestinian government.
Sunday, President Abbas, whose Fatah group remains in control of the West Bank, swore in the new cabinet headed by independent economist Salam Fayyad.
