올메르트 총리는 이스라엘 라디오 방송과의 인터뷰에서 외교적 해결 노력을 다시 한 번 추진하고 싶다고 말했습니다. 그러면서 이란이 ‘핵무기 보유’라는 선을 넘어서기 까지는 아직 많은 단계가 남아있다는 견해도 밝혔습니다.
하지만 이스라엘은 이란의 핵 시설에 대한 사전 공습 가능성도 배제하지 않고 있습니다. 마흐무드 아흐마디네자드 이란 대통령은 2년전 이스라엘이 지도에서 사라져야 한다고 말했었습니다.
한편 유럽연합인 EU의 하비에르 솔라나 외교정책대표는 25일 알리 라리자니 이란 핵 협상 대표와 만나 이란 핵 계획에 관해 논의할 예정입니다.
미국과 동맹국들은 이란이 핵 무기 개발을 추진한다는 주장을 펴고 있습니다. 하지만 이란 정부는 자국 핵이 오직 평화적인 용도로만 쓰일 것이라는 입장입니다.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert says he believes there can be a peaceful solution to the standoff over Iran's nuclear program.
Mr. Olmert, in an interview with Israeli radio, said he wants to give diplomacy a chance. He added that Iran is a long way from crossing what he called the nuclear threshold.
Israel has not ruled out a pre-emptive strike against Iranian nuclear facilities. Two years ago, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Israel should be wiped off the map.
European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana plans to meet Wednesday with Iran's top nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani, for talks on Iran's nuclear program.
The United States and its allies accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons. Tehran says its nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes.
