중국 남부의 한 하천에서 심각한 중금속 오염이 발견됐으며, 이로인해 인근 주민 15만명에 대한 수도 공급이 중단됐다고 중국 당국이 밝혔습니다.
중국 관영 신화통신 보도에 따르면 중국 광시성 송코이강의 최소한 100킬로미터 구역에서 기준치 이상의 중금속이 발견됐습니다. 중국 당국은 오염 원인을 조사하고 있습니다.
한편 이로인해 7개의 수력발전소 가동도 중단됐으며, 현지 주민들인 한 개의 발전소에 의존하고 있습니다.
신화 통신은 이러한 오염은 중국의 강과 지하수의 안전을 위협하는 가장 큰 원인이라고 분석했습니다.
중국에서는 지난 2005년에도 화학공장에서 수천톤의 독성 화학물질이 북부 쑹화(松花)강으로 흘러드는 사고가 발생해서, 주민 수백만명에 대한 급수가 중단됐었습니다.

China's state-run media say water supplies have been cut off to as many as 150-thousand people in southern China after authorities found high levels of heavy metals in a river.
The Xinhua news agency says at least 100 kilometers of the Honghe in China's Guangxi region were found to be contaminated with excessive levels of lead and other heavy metals. Xinhua says the source of the pollution was under investigation.
Seven water plants in the area have been shut down, and residents are now relying on one local power plant.
State media have reported that pollution made major portions of China's river water and ground water supplies unsafe.
In 2005, an accident caused a Chinese chemical plant to spew tons of toxic chemicals into northern China's Songhua River, forcing authorities to temporarily suspend running water to millions of people.
