태국의 군사 쿠데타로 실각한 탁신 신와트라 총리가 20일 영국에 도착했습니다.
탁신 총리는 뉴욕에서 열리고 있는 유엔 총회에 참석도중 태국 군부의 쿠데타로 실각됐습니다. 탁신 총리는 이날 태국 전세기편으로 자신의 딸이 유학하고 있는 런던에 도착했습니다.
영국 외무부는 탁신 총리가 민간 차원에서 런던을 방문중이라고 확인하고 그러나 탁신 총리는 아직 영국 정부 관리들에게 대화를 요청하지 않았다고 말했습니다.
탁신 총리는 이날 뉴욕을 떠나기 앞서 군부가 쿠데타를 일으킬것으로 전혀 예상하지 못했다고 말했습니다. 탁신 총리는 그러나 자신은 권력에 집착하지 않을것이라고 덧붙였습니다.
한편 쿠데타를 주동한 손티 분야랏그린 육군 총사령관은 20일 국가적 갈등을 해결하고 국정을 정상적으로 되돌리기 위해 탁신 총리에 대한 쿠데타가 필요했다고 말했습니다.
분야랏그린 총사령관은 그러나 탁신 총리의 자산을 몰수하고 그를 부패혐의로 기소할것인지의 여부를 묻는 질문에 즉답을 하지 않았습니다.
분야랏그린 총사령관은 태국의 푸미폰 아둘야엣 국왕이 2주안에 새로운 과도 정부가 구성되기 전까지 자신이 정부를 이끌도록 권한을 부여했다고 말했습니다. 그는 10월에 새로운 선거를 실시할것이라고 다짐했습니다.

Thailand's ousted prime minister, Thaksin Shinawatra, has arrived in Britain after a military coup in his country.
Mr. Thaksin was deposed by the Thai army Tuesday while he was in New York for the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly. Today (Wednesday) he flew on a chartered Thai Airways jet to London, where his daughter is a student.
Britain's Foreign Office says the Thai leader is there on a private visit, and has not requested any meetings with government officials.
Before leaving New York today (Wednesday), Mr. Thaksin said he never expected the military would stage a coup. But he indicated he will not try to cling to power.
In Bangkok, the man who engineered the coup - Army Chief General Sondhi Boonyaratglin - said Mr. Thaksin's overthrow was necessary to resolve conflict and bring normalcy back to the country. He would not directly answer questions about whether Mr. Thaksin's assets will be confiscated or whether the prime minister will be prosecuted for alleged corruption.
Sondhi said King Bhumipol Adulyadej has authorized him to lead the government until a new caretaker administration is formed in two weeks. The general pledged that new elections will be held by October of 2007.
