South Korea has dropped its military readiness from a heightened state back to normal levels, more than two weeks after North Korea test-fired seven missiles without explanation.
A South Korean Defense Ministry official told reporters of the change today (Tuesday). He added, though, that South Korean will maintain vigilance along its maritime and land borders.
Yonhap news service quotes South Korean Defense Minister Yoon Kwang-ung as saying Monday that the government has detected no urgent signs of suspected activities at North Korean missile bases.
Tensions between the two nations have eased considerably in recent years, but the missile tests July 4th and 5th renewed the chill between them. North and South Korea are technically still at war, since a truce, rather than a peace treaty, ended the Korean War in 1953. The border between them is heavily fortified on both sides.
