남한과 북한 주민 수백여명이 한국전쟁 이래 반세기가 넘게 보지 못했던 가족들을 만났습니다. 남한인 4백여명은 19일 12일 간에 걸친 이산가족 특별상봉 행사 첫 날 오랫동안 잃어버렸던 친지들을 만났습니다.
남한 통일부는 이번 상봉행사에 1천7백여명이 참가한다고 밝혔습니다. 한국에서는 2000년 이래 1만3천여명의 이산가족이 가족 및 친지와 상봉했습니다.
6.15 남북 정상회담 6주년을 기념해 열린 이번 상봉행사에서는 지난 1978년 고교생 시절 북한에 의해 납치됐던 김영남씨도 다음 주에 가족들과 만납니다. 김영남씨는 30년 가까이 북한에 살면서 비슷한 환경에서 북한에 의해 납치된 일본인 요코타 메구미씨와 결혼한 것으로 알려졌습니다.

Hundreds of North Koreans and South Koreans have been reunited with family members they had not seen since the Korean War, more than 50 years ago.
Over 400 South Koreans met long-lost relatives today (Monday) at a mountain resort in the North, in the first of a 12-day series of reunions. South Korea's Unification Ministry says more than 17-hundred people will take part in the reunions -- the latest in a series of such meetings (since 2000) that have put more than 13 thousand displaced Koreans in touch with their relatives.

During the nearly three decades he has spent in North Korea, the man is believed to have married (Megumi Yokota) a Japanese woman abducted by the communist state under similar circumstances.
