Pakistani officials are tightening security in Islamabad ahead of a visit by President Bush. Officials say security forces have spread out in areas overlooking the city and commandos have taken position on rooftops around the capital. Most schools and businesses were expected to close during the president's visit.

Hardline Islamic parties have vowed to launch massive street protests today (Friday) against the Bush trip, which includes talks with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf on Saturday. A suicide bombing attack Thursday outside a U.S. Consulate in Pakistan's largest city, Karachi, killed four people, including an American diplomat. U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation agents joined Pakistani police today (Friday) in the search for suspects.

Mr. Bush said he would not be intimidated by the attack. He said it is important that he and Mr. Musharraf discuss continuing the fight against terrorists. For several weeks, thousands of Pakistanis have staged often violent protests against the United States and other Western nations over controversial cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad.
