이라크 북부 키르쿠크에서 고위 경찰간부 한 명이 도로변 폭탄 폭발로 사망했다고 이라크 당국이 밝혔습니다.
경찰은 키르쿠크 경찰 작전국장인 하팀 카라프 준장이 키르쿠크 서남쪽으로 35킬로미터 떨어진 곳에서 차를 타고 가던 중 폭탄이 폭발하는 바람에 경호원 한 명과 함께 사망했다고 말했습니다.
또 이라크 북부지역에서는 구조대가 술라이마니야 부근에서 사흘 전 추락한 소형 비행기를 발견했다고 쿠르드족 관리들이 밝혔습니다. 이 비행기에 탑승했던 독일인 사업가 3명 등 6명은 모두 사망했습니다.
한편 미군은 이라크인들이 주도하는 수감자 평가위원회가 더이상 구금할 필요가 없다고 판정한 이라크인 남자 재소자 4백여명을 석방했습니다. 이번 석방은 18일 이뤄졌으며, 미군은 성명에서 2004년 8월 이래 2만8천여명의 사례에 대한 조사가 이뤄져 이 중 약 절반이 석방됐다고 말했습니다.

Iraqi authorities say a roadside bomb has killed a police general and his driver near the northern city of Kirkuk.
The victim was Brigadier General Hatim Khalaf, head of the Kirkuk police operations room.
Also in northern Iraq, Kurdish officials say search teams have located a small plane that crashed three days ago near Sulaimaniyah. They say all six people on board -- including at least three German businessmen -- were killed.
The developments come a day after roadside bomb attacks in Baghdad killed an American soldier and three Iraqi policemen.
Separately, the U.S. military said (Saturday) it had freed more than 400 male Iraqi prisoners after an Iraqi-led review board recommended their release.
