At least three top al-Qaida leaders, including a master bomb maker, are reported to have been killed in a U.S. missile strike in eastern Pakistan last week.
News reports quoted unnamed Pakistani security sources as saying one of the dead has been identified as Midhat Musri (also known as Abu Khabab al-Masri), an explosives expert who is believed to have run an al-Qaida training camp in Afghanistan. The United States had posted a five million-dollar reward for his capture.
Also reported killed were a son-in-law of al-Qaida's number two leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, and another Egyptian, Abu Obaidah al-Misri, the chief of insurgent operations in Afghanistan's Kunar province.
Pakistan's Information Minister (Sheikh Rashid Ahmed) acknowledged today (Thursday) that "some foreign militants" were among at least 18 people killed in the January 13th bombing. He said an investigation is underway to determine the identities of the militants.
