홍콩 주민 수 만 명은 4일 시내에서 대규모 평화 행진을 벌이면서, 정치 지도자들을 선출하는 권한을 확대해 줄 것을 요구했습니다.
주최 측은 중국이 8년 전 영국으로부터 홍콩의 통치권을 반환받을 때 제정된 기본 법의 규정에 따른 전면적인 민주화를 요구하는 이날 시위에 25만명이 참가했다고 말했습니다.
경찰 당국은 시위 참가자 수를 6만 명으로 추산했습니다. 본토 중국의 지지를 받고 있는 도날드 창 홍콩 행정장관은 시위대들의 요구를 인정하면서, 그러나, 홍콩 중앙 정부는 순차적으로 완전한 민주주의를 향해 움직이고 있다고 말했습니다.

Tens of thousands of people have marched peacefully through Hong Kong, demanding more power to pick their political leaders.
Organizers said about 250-thousand people attended the demonstration today (Sunday), calling for full democracy under the Basic Law in place when China regained control of the former British colony eight years ago. Police estimated turnout at about 60-thousand.
The territory's Beijing-backed chief executive (Donald Tsang) later acknowledged protesters' demands, but said the central government is moving toward full democracy in an orderly fashion.
He said a package of political reforms, which some protesters have opposed, should be enacted before deciding on a timetable for universal suffrage.
