Pakistan Denies Nuke Tech Sale to Arab States - 2005-02-07

Pakistan is denying a media report that Pakistani scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan may have sold nuclear bomb equipment and technology to Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries.

Mr. Khan admitted last year that he leaked nuclear secrets to Iran, Libya and North Korea, triggering global fears about nuclear proliferation and technology transfers to terrorists.

The latest edition of Time magazine reports that U.S. officials are investigating whether Mr. Khan also sold sensitive technology to Arab nations, including Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

Pakistani Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed says the allegations are "baseless." But he did not rule out the possibility that Mr. Khan could have sold technology to more countries than initially thought. He said Pakistan will investigate.
