오바마 당선자는 11일 미국 ABC-TV 'This Week''이번 주'라는 프로그램에 출연해 관타나모 베이 내 수감시설을 폐쇄하는 일은 대부분의 사람들이 생각하는 것보다 훨씬 어려운 일이라고 설명하면서 그러나 자신의 행정부는 궁극적으로 이를 폐쇄시킬 것이라고 강조했습니다.
오바마 당선자는 또한 광범위한 사안들에 관한 이 인터뷰 중에 가자 지구 분쟁 문제도 거론하면서 이스라엘과 팔레스타인의 민간인들이 목숨을 잃고 있는 것은 가슴 아픈 일이라고 말했습니다.
한편 퇴임을 앞둔 조지 부시 대통령은 Fox-TV과의 별도의 회견에서 8년 동안의 재임 기간을 되돌아보면서 자신이 거둔 성과들에 대해 자랑스럽게 여기고 있다고 말했습니다.

U.S. President-elect Barack Obama says he does not expect to fulfill his campaign pledge to close the prison facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, within his first 100 days in office.
In an interview with (U.S. television network) ABC's "This Week" (broadcast Sunday),Mr. Obama said closing the prison is more difficult than many people realize. But he stressed that his administration eventually will shut it down.
Mr. Obama also discussed the conflict in Gaza during the wide-ranging interview. He said the deaths of both Palestinian and Israeli civilians are "heartbreaking."
But he declined to speak at length about the conflict, repeating what he has said before -- that the United States cannot have two administrations sending signals in a volatile situation.
In a separate interview, the outgoing U.S. president, George Bush, looked back on his eight years in office, telling the Fox News Sunday program he is proud of his accomplishments.
