국제 적십자.적신월 연맹은 23일 의사 채용과 의료 장비 조달, 위생 시설 설치를 위해 920만 달러 지원을 국제사회에 호소했습니다. 적십자사는 공공 위생을 개선해 질병 확산을 막기 위해 교육 캠페인을 준비하고 있다고 말했습니다.
인도주의 활동가들은 짐바브웨에 우기가 시작되면서 콜레라 전염병이 악화될 수 있다고 말했습니다. 유엔은 짐바브웨에서 최소 1170명이 콜레라로 사망했다고 밝혔습니다.
구호 요원들은 또 짐바브웨에 대한 긴급 식량 지원이 줄어들어 어린이들의 영양실조가 늘어나고 있다고 말했습니다.
한편, 로버트 무가베 대통령은 사퇴하라는 미국의 요구를 ' 어리석다'고 일축하며, 미국측의 "최후의 필사적인 시도"라고 말했습니다.

The Red Cross (International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies)says it is launching a massive new anti-cholera effort in Zimbabwe, where an outbreak of the disease has killed almost 12-hundred people in recent months.
The organization today (Tuesday)issued an appeal for nine-point-two million dollars to pay for doctors, medical supplies and sanitation facilities. The Red Cross says it is also organizing an educational campaign to stop the disease's spread by improving public hygiene.
Humanitarian workers say the epidemic could worsen as the rainy season sets in. The United Nations says at least 11-hundred-70 people have died of cholera around the country.
Aid workers (at Save the Children) are also warning that child malnutrition is on the rise in Zimbabwe, as emergency food supplies dwindle.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe's president, Robert Mugabe, has dismissed U.S. calls for him to quit as "stupid," saying they represent -- in his words -- "the last kicks of a dying horse" (the last desperate attempt).
