중국의 관영 신화통신은 17일 중국 외교부의 리우젠챠오 대변인의 말을 인용해 중국은 법치국가이며 법에 따라 관련 사안들을 처리한다고 밝혔습니다. 리우젠챠오 대변인은 자국의 국내사안에 대한 외국의 간섭을 거부한다고 덧붙였습니다.
유럽연합 의장국인 프랑스는 16일, 중국정부가 류사오보를 포함해 중국 지식인들과 인권운동가들을 체포한 데 대해 비난했습니다. 중국 정부는 최근 300여명의 중국인들이 중국 정부에 자유와 민주주의의 확대를 요구하는 공개 서한에 서명을 한 후 이들 인권운동가들을 체포했습니다.
류사오보의 부인과 변호사는, 중국 당국이 류사오보의 구금과 관련해 아무런 정보를 제공하지 않고 있다고 말했습니다. 류사오보는 일주일 이상 행방 불명 된 상태입니다.

China's official Xinhua news agency quotes Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao as saying (today/Wednesday)that China is a country under the rule of law and handles relevant issues strictly in accordance with its laws. He also said that China rejects foreign interference in its domestic affairs.
The European Union's French presidency on Tuesday criticized Beijing for arresting a number of Chinese intellectuals and human rights activists, including Liu Xiaobo. The arrests came after more than 300 people signed an open letter to the government calling for more freedoms and democracy.
Liu's wife and his lawyer say Chinese authorities have not released any information regarding the writer's detention. He has been missing for more than a week.
