호세 마누엘 바로소 유럽연합 집행위원장은 26일 벨기에 브뤼셀에서 일련의 경기부양책 들을 발표하면서, 유럽 국가들이 경제 재건 방안들을 상호 조율할 것을 촉구했 습니다. 이번 경기부양책에는 복지와 실업 수당 확대, 부가가치세 인하, 자동차 업계에 대한 65억 달러 지원 방안 들이 포함돼 있습니다.
경기부양책에 소요되는 대부분의 자금은 각국 정부로부터 모금될 것이며, 다음달 EU 회원국들의 논의를 거쳐 경기 부양책이 최종 채택될 예정입니다.
한편, 고든 브라운 영국 총리는 26일, 영국이 다음 G20 회의가 내년 4월 영국에서 열릴 것이라고 말했습니다. G20회의에는 선진국 및 신흥개도국 20개국이 참가합니다. 브라운 총리는 바락 오바마 미국 대통령 당선자가 차기 G20회의에 참석할 것임을 알려왔다고 말했습니다.

The European Commission is pushing a 260-billion dollar economic stimulus package aimed at reviving Europe's stalled economies.
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso called on European countries to coordinate their economic recovery plans, as he unveiled a set of ambitious proposals today (Wednesday)in Brussels. The proposals would extend welfare and unemployment benefits, cut the value-added tax, and hand six-point-five billion dollars to struggling European auto makers.
Most ofthe funding (, about 220 billion dollars) will come from national governments, and it remains to be seen whether member states will agree to the plan when they debate the proposals in December.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said today (Wednesday) that Britain will host the next G-20 meeting (of key industrialized and developing nations) in April. Mr. Brown said he had already spoken with U.S. President-elect Barack Obama, who confirmed he will attend the summit.
