남아공 내각은 20일 성명을 통해 짐바브웨 여.여간 연립정부 구성 협상에서 진전이 전혀 이뤄지지 않고 있어 "매우 우려된다"고 밝혔습니다.
성명은 짐바브웨 지도부가 대의정부를 구성할 때까지 농업지원을 위한 지원금 지급을 보류할 것이라고 전했습니다.
한편, 제임스 맥기 짐바브웨 주재 미국 대사는 이날 짐바브웨의 정치위기가 해소되지 않으면 미국이 짐바브웨 정부 관리들을 겨냥한 새로운 표적제재를 부과할 수 있다고 다시 한번 경고했습니다. (끝)
South Africa says it will hold back nearly 30-million dollars in aid to Zimbabwe until that country has a unity government in place.
In a statement today (Thursday), the South African cabinet says it is "extremely concerned" about the lack of progress in power-sharing talks between Zimbabwe's ruling and opposition parties.
The statement says South Africa will withhold the money, meant for agricultural assistance, until leaders form a representative government.
Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe is facing increasing pressure to carry out a power-sharing deal he signed with the opposition in September.
Also today, the U.S. ambassador to Zimbabwe, James McGee, renewed Washington's threat to impose new targeted sanctions against Zimbabwean officials.
He said the political crisis has led to an "extremely dire" food and health situation.
