하미드 카르자이 아프가니스탄 대통령은 무장단체 탈레반 지도자 물라 오마르가 평화 회담을 위해 모습을 드러낸다면 오마르의 안전을 보장하겠다고 16일 밝혔습니다.
카르자이 대통령은 이 날 기자들에게 오마르를 보호하는 것이 아프가니스탄의 동맹국들에 도전하는 것을 의미할 수 있지만 오마르 보호에 최선을 다하겠다고 말했습니다.
카르자이 대통령은 또 평화 협상을 원하는 탈레반 측의 어느 정파라도 아프가니스탄의 헌법을 먼저 받아들이고 무장세력 알카에다와의 관계를 끊어야 한다고 말했습니다.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai says he will guarantee the safety of Taliban leader Mullah Omar, if Omar comes out of hiding for peace talks.
Mr. Karzai told reporters today (Sunday) he would go to "any length" to protect the fugitive Islamic militia leader, even if it means defying Afghanistan's international partners.
Mr. Karzai repeated his long-held position that any Taliban faction that wants to negotiate peace must first accept the Afghan constitution and renounce al-Qaida.
In the past, Taliban leaders have said foreign troops must leave Afghanistan before peace talks can begin. The government rejected that condition.
Omar founded the Taliban movement that ran Afghanistan from 1996 until the U.S.-led invasion in 2001.
Since then, he has been an international fugitive with a 10 million-dollar bounty on his head for sheltering al-Qaida leaders.
