중국이 니콜라 사르코지 프랑스 대통령에게 티베트의 정신적 지도자 달라이 라마와의 회동 계획을 취소하라고 요구하고 나섰습니다. 중국은 이 같은 요구가 받아들여지지 않을 경우 프랑스와 중국의 관계가 악화될 것이라고 경고했습니다.
중국 외교부의 칭강 대변인은 오늘 발표한 성명에서 중국은 외국 정상과 달라이 라마 간의 어떠한 접촉에도 반대한다고 밝혔습니다. 성명은 중국과 프랑스 그리고 중국과 유럽전체의 관계가 개선, 발전돼 왔으며 이는 소중히 여겨져야 한다고 주장했습니다.
사르코지 프랑스 대통령은 다음달 폴란드에서 달라이 라마와 만날 예정입니다. 사르코지 대통령은 지난 3월 중국당국이 티베트에서 시위대를 강경진압한 데 항의해 베이징 올림픽 개막식에 불참하겠다고 경고하고 나서 중국측의 반발을 산 바 있습니다.

China is calling on French President Nicolas Sarkozy to cancel his upcoming meeting with the Dalai Lama, or risk harming relations between Paris and Beijing.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang issued a statement today(Friday) saying China opposes contact between any foreign leaders and the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader.
Qin says relations between China and France, as well with all of Europe, have been improving and developing, and should be "cherished."
Mr. Sarkozy plans to meet the Dalai Lama in Poland next month. The French president angered China earlier this year when he threatened to boycott the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympic Games after China's harsh crackdown of protesters in Tibet in March.
Beijing accused the Dalai Lama of orchestrating the demonstrations.
