세계 1위의 경제대국 미국의 9월 소비자 지출이 감소했습니다. 미국 상무부는 오늘 발표한 보고서에서 지난 9월 소비자 지출이 4년 만에 가장 큰 폭으로 떨어졌다고 밝혔습니다.
유럽의 최대 경제대국인 독일의 소비자 역시 전세계적인 금융위기의 여파로 소비를 주저하고 있는 것으로 나타났습니다.독일 정부는 지난 9월 소매 판매가 전달에 비해 2%이상 크게 줄었다고 밝혔습니다.

U.S. consumer spending -- a key driver of the world's largest economy -- dropped in September. Today's (Friday's)report from the Commerce Department says it is the sharpest decline in four years.
The global financial crisis has also made shoppers in Germany -- Europe's largest economy -- hesitant to spend. German officials today say retail sales fell more than two percent in September, a huge shift from August, when sales increased by almost the same amount.
The falling consumer spending comes just one day after a report showed the U.S. economy moving toward recession.
To boost the flagging global economy, central banks around the world (including the European Central Bank and the U.S. Federal Reserve) have been cutting interest rates, and Japan took that action today. Lower interest rates make it easier for businesses to borrow the money they need to buy new equipment, expand their operations, and hire new people.
