23일 세계 증시가 혼전양상을 보이는 가운데 한국과, 일본, 홍콩의 주가지수들은 마감직전에 큰 폭으로 하락했습니다.
한편, 미국 백악관의 다나 페리노 대변인은 23일, 경제가 회복세로 돌아서기 전에 좀 더 악화될 것으로 보인다고 말했습니다.
다음 달 11월 15일 워싱턴에서는 세계 금융위기 대처방안 논의를 위해 세계 20개국 정상회의가 열릴 예정입니다.

The former head of the U.S. central bank, Alan Greenspan called the current
financial crisis a "once-in-a century credit tsunami" today (Thursday)
during testimony before one of the many Congressional hearings aimed at
figuring out what caused the economic meltdown and how to prevent another one.
Greenspan opposed tighter regulation of financial companies during the 18 years
he was chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve. But now he urges more regulation
of financial firms and predicts a rise in layoffs and unemployment.
At the same time, the head of the government's 700-billion dollar financial
rescue program told a Senate hearing the administration has made "tremendous"
progress in organizing the huge effort. Neel Kashkari also said there have been
"signs of improvement" in markets.
Global stock markets posted mixed results in today's (Thursday's) trading.
Key markets in Tokyo, Seoul, and Hong Kong were down sharply at the close.
European markets were mixed at the close, while U.S. stocks were also mixed in
volatile afternoon trading.
Investors have been discouraged recently by a flurry of disappointing earning
reports from major companies.
