최근 5년 연속 두자릿수 성장세를 이어온 중국의 경제 성장률이 한 자릿수를 기록했습니다. 중국 국가통계국은 20일 지난 3분기 국내총생산이 전년 동기 대비 9 퍼센트 증가했다고 발표했습니다. 이는 지난 2분기에 비해 1 퍼센트 하락한 수치입니다.
국가통계국 대변인은 국제적인 금융위기로 인해 중국 경제성장의 주요 기반인 수출이 감소한 것이 성장률 하락의 원인이라고 지적했습니다. 중국 경제가 한 자릿수 성장률을 보인 것은 SARS, 즉 중증급성호흡기증후군으로 중화권 경제가 타격을 입은 2003년 이후 처음입니다. 중국 경제는 지난해 12퍼센트의 성장률을 기록했으나 올해 평균 성장율은 현재 10퍼센트를 밑돌고 있습니다.
중국 관리들은 이같은 상황이 지속된다면 올해 경제성장률이 수 년 만에 한 자릿수를 기록할 가능성이 있는 것으로 내다 보고 있습니다.

China says its economic growth for the third quarter of this year has
slipped to its slowest pace in five years.
Figures released today (Monday) by China's National Statistics Bureau
show the country's economy expanding at nine percent, down a full percentage
point from the second quarter.
A spokesman for the bureau says the global financial crisis is largely to blame
as exports account for a significant portion of China's economic growth.
China's economic expansion in the third quarter was its weakest since the SARS
epidemic in 2003.
Last year, China's economy grew by 12 percent, but so far this year it is
averaging less than 10 percent.
If the pace continues, officials say China could see its annual economic growth
slip to single digit numbers for the first time in years.
