조지 부시 미국 대통령은 17일 한국 등 7개국을 미국 입국 비자 면제계획의 신규 가입국으로 공식 발표했습니다.
부시 대통령은 백악관에서 한국을 비롯해 라트비아와 리투아니아, 에스토니아, 헝가리, 체코, 슬로바키아가 비자면제계획 신규 가입국이 됐다고 밝혔습니다.
이에 따라 이들 7개국 국민은 앞으로 관광과 상용 목적으로 1년에 최대 90일간 입국 비자 없이도 미국을 여행할 수 있게됩니다.
부시 대통령은 이같은 특권을 부여하는 것은 미국과 해당국 국민들간 우정을 입증하는 것이라고 말했습니다.
해당국 중 유럽국가들은 모두 북대서양조약기구, 나토 (NATO) 회원국입니다.

U.S. President George Bush has announced that seven
countries will be added to the list of nations whose citizens do not need a
visa to travel to the United States.
Speaking at the White House today (Friday)Mr. Bush said Latvia,
Lithuania, Estonia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and South Korea have
all qualified for the visa waiver program.
The president said extending this privilege is a testament to the bonds of
friendship between Americans and the citizens of these countries.
The European countries are all members of NATO -- the international alliance
that has supported the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan. Most NATO allies
participate in the visa waiver program. Their citizens are allowed to travel to
the United States and stay for up to 90 days without a visa.
