The World Health Organization and U.N. children's organization, UNICEF, have called China's tainted-milk scandal "deplorable," as more countries ban Chinese milk products and vow to increase product testing.

South Korea today (Thursday)became the latest nation to ban imports of Chinese dairy products, after the Korean Food and Drug Administration(KFDA) said it found the chemical melamine in two biscuit-type snacks.

The European Commission today proposed a ban on all Chinese-made children's food products containing milk. It also said that on Friday it will begin testing all products from China that contain more than 50 percent milk powder.

EU food experts say the threat of getting ill from the products is limited to children.

At least 53-thousand children in China and Hong Kong have been sickened from ingesting milk tainted with melamine, which is believed to have been used to cheat on quality tests. Four children have died, while nearly 13-thousand others remain hospitalized.
