중국의 주요 회사들이 판매한 일부 우유에서 공업용 화학물질 멜라민이 검출됐다고 중국 당국이 밝혔습니다.
중국 질량검사총국은 멍뉴와 이리, 광밍 등 3대 유명업체의 우유를 표본 검사한 결과 10%가 멜라민에 오염된 것으로 드러났다고 밝혔습니다. 최근 중국에서 큰 물의를 일으키고 있는 불량 분유에서도 멜라민이 검출된 바 있습니다.
홍콩에서는 대형 유통업체 두 곳이 멍뉴 사가 생산한 우유 제품들을 모두 거둬들였고, 홍콩 당국은 이리 사가 생산한 유제품을 회수 조치하도록 명령했습니다. 미국의 스타벅스 커피회사도 중국 본토에 있는 3백 개 판매점에 멍뉴 사의 우유를 쓰지 못하도록 조치했습니다.
한편 중국 당국은 지금까지 멜라민이 들어간 불량 분유를 먹고 숨진 아기들이4명에 이른다고 밝혔습니다.

China's tainted milk scandal is worsening
-- the country's top food quality body says it has discovered that some milk
sold to consumers by major dairy companies was contaminated.
In a report published today (Friday on its Web site), the General
Administration of Quality Supervision (Inspection and Quarantine)says
if found that 10 percent of milk samples were tainted with the industrial
chemical melamine.
The samples came from three leading companies -- Mengniu Dairy, Yili Industrial
Group and Bright Dairy.
Two major supermarket chains in Hong Kong pulled all liquid milk products from
Mengniu Dairy, and authorities there have ordered a recall of dairy products
made by Yili. U.S.-based Starbucks says it has ordered its 300 cafes on the
mainland to pull milk supplied by Mengniu.
Chinese authorities say four infants have died after drinking formula made from
contaminated milk powder.
