중국 분유회사가 일부 제품이 오염된 사실을 인정하자, 중국 보건당국이 전국에 걸쳐 아기 분유에 대한 전면 조사에 들어갔습니다.
중국 관영 매체에 따르면, 유제품 제조회사인 싼루그룹은 지난 8월6일 이후에 제조된 아기 분유 7백 톤을 회수 조치했습니다. 중국 보건 당국은 문제의 분유가 화학물질인 멜라민에 오염됐다며, 전국적으로 수십 명의 아기들이 이 분유를 먹고 신장결석을 일으킨 것으로 추정된다고 밝혔습니다.
지금까지 적어도 59 명의 신생아들이 신장 결석 증상을 보여 병원에 입원했고 북서부 깐수 성에서는 한 명이 숨졌습니다.

China's health ministry is launching a nationwide probe of all baby milk powder
after a company acknowledged some of its products were contaminated.
State media reported Thursday the Sanlu group issued a recall for 700 tons of
baby formula produced before August sixth. Health officials say the formula was
tainted with melamine and was likely the cause of kidney stones in dozens of
babies across the country (-- including Jiangsu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shandong,
Anhui, Hunan and Gansu provinces).
At least 59 infants have been hospitalized with the condition and one baby died
in the northwestern province of Gansu.
Sanlu is a leading maker of dairy products and is partly owned by a New Zealand
company (Fonterra). Reports say some of the products could have made
their way into overseas markets.
