Pakistani security officials say a suspected U.S. missile strike has hit
a Taliban stronghold in the country's northwest tribal region, killing at least
14 people and wounding at least 15 others.
Security officials say the suspected drones fired missiles at a house and
seminary run by Taliban commander Jalaluddin Haqqani in North Waziristan near
the Afghan border today (Monday).
The United States has not confirmed the strikes.
Intelligence officials say several civilians, including women and children,
were among those killed in the attack. They say seven suspected militants,
possibly including foreign fighters, were also killed.
U.S. intelligence officials say Pakistani militants in the tribal areas have
joined with al-Qaida in plotting attacks against U.S. and allied troops in
Afghanistan.
Pakistan's newly-elected president, Asif Ali Zardari, has said he is willing to
work with the United States to combat militants.
