워싱턴포스트신문의 밥 우드워드 부국장이 새 저서에서 누리 알 말리키 이라크 총리에 대한 미국 행정부의 감시 활동 의혹을 제기한 가운데 라이스 장관은 미국과 이라크가 친구로서 서로 정보를 공유하고 있다고 강조했습니다. 라이스 장관은 이날 우드워드 부국장의 주장에 대한 직접적 반박은 피했습니다.
이라크 정부는 지난 5일 미국 정부에 감시 활동의혹에 대한 해명을 요구할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
한편 데이비드 페트로스 미군 대장은 오는 16일 레이몬드 오디어노 미군 중장에게 이라크 주둔 미군 사령관직을 넘겨줄 예정입니다.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says the United States has an open
political and diplomatic relationship with the Iraqi government.
Rice made her remarks Sunday in Morocco after a new book by U.S. journalist Bob
Woodward (with "The Washington Post" newspaper)said the
United States spied on Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and other Iraqi
leaders.
Although Rice did not respond directly to the allegations, she said the United
States and Iraq share information with each other as friends.
The Iraqi government said Friday it will ask for an explanation from U.S.
officials about the spying allegations.
Separately, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, General David Petraeus, is
scheduled to hand over his post to another commander.
Lieutenant-General Raymond Odierno will take over U.S. forces in Iraq on
September 16th.
General Petraeus will become head of the broader U.S. Central Command,
beginning in October. His new region stretches from the Horn of Africa to
Central Asia, including Iraq and Afghanistan.
