터키는 러시아와 그루지아간 위기 사태 이후 카프카스 지역을 안정화시키기 위한 지역협력단체 창설을 제의했습니다.
터키의 알리 바바칸 외무장관은 이 단체는 터키와 러시아, 그루지아, 아제르바이잔, 아르메니아 등이 포함될 것이라고 말했습니다.
바바칸 장관은 31일 터키 수도 이스탄불에서 터키를 방문중인 그루지아의 에카 트케셀라슈빌리 외무장관과의 공동 기자회견에서 이 제안을 공개했습니다.
트케셀라슈빌리 장관은 그루지아에 대한 터키의 지지를 환영했으나 그루지아가 러시아를 신뢰할만한 동반자 국가로 간주할 수 있기 전에 그루지아는 러시아와의 어떠한 지역 회담에도 참석하지 않을 것이라고 강조했습니다. 트케셀라슈빌리 장관은 우선 프랑스 중재 하에 체결된 휴전 협정 조항들을 전면 이행한다는데에, 러시아가 동의해야할 것이라고 덧붙였습니다.

Turkey has proposed creating a
regional cooperation group to stabilize the Caucasus following the
Russia-Georgia crisis.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan says the group would include his country
as well as Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia. He detailed the proposal
during a joint news conference today (Sunday) in Istanbul with visiting
Georgian Foreign Minister Eka Tkeshelashvili.
Tkeshelashvili welcomed Turkish support for Georgia. But she said her country
will not take part in any regional talks with Russia until Georgia can consider
Moscow a reliable partner. She said Russia must first agree to fully implement
the terms of a French-brokered cease-fire.
The Georgian foreign minister also said Russia's recent actions could pose a
serious threat to the region. She said Europe can not be secure as long as
Russia continues with what she called its expansionist policies.
